I don’t watch a lot of daytime television, so if you do, you may already know about the natural beauty remedy for cellulite that was featured on Dr. Oz’s show. This post is for those who missed it because I really don’t want you to miss out on the information. I’m also – although technically it may not be considered natural – including a homemade facial mask that was on the same program.

Drinking coffee may not be the best thing in the world for your skin, but it has a quite a bit of promise as a topical application. According to livestrong.com, not only does caffeine contain antioxidants, but “[it has the] ability to constrict small blood vessels and reduce inflammation….” The anti-inflammatory qualities are an active component in many cellulite creams, as is the ability of coffee to dehydrate the skin, which is useful for drawing out the excess fluid in fat cells and improving the appearance of the skin.

So, before you invest in an expensive caffeine-containing cellulite cream, try this one:

Coffee Rub for Cellulite

Mix about ½ cup of coffee (on the program it looked like they used instant coffee, but I’ve read other recipes that use ground coffee and even used coffee grounds) with ¼ cup of sugar (helps with exfoliation). Add enough olive oil to make a mixture you can apply to your skin. Massage the rub into the areas with cellulite, then rinse.

The remedy is a temporary one, but some women who use a coffee rub regularly do claim there is a real visible reduction over time.

I know, I know aspirin is a drug, but since you aren’t going to be ingesting it and because this recipe is easy, inexpensive, and effective:

Aspirin and Lemon Juice Facial

Grind about 6 aspirin into a powder and mix with enough lemon juice (preferably fresh) to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Remove the mask with a moistened cotton pad or cloth dipped in baking soda. Rinse and moisturize as usual.

I hope you have fun with these recipes and will let me know how they work for you.
