Natural Beauty Knows No Age: Anti-Aging Skin Care

Beauty is forever.

When you’re young, your beauty “issues” are usually things like acne or the fact that your face hasn’t caught up to your nose or your hair is mousy. When you are” no longer young,” your reaction to these kinds of issues is probably something along the lines of “big deal.” It’s not that you’re insensitive; it’s that when you get older, you go from the beauty warm-ups of “Does this lip gloss look good with my tank top?” to the beauty Olympics of “Who parked their car on my face overnight?” So what’s all this about “natural beauty knows no age”?

Sure, as you get older, you’ve (hopefully) developed more inner beauty, but that is not what this blog is about. It’s about looking as good as you can. Naturally. It’s about solutions and treatments and remedies. Natural ones. And today’s post is about natural beauty tips that will help you prevent and fight the effects of aging on your skin.

There are a lot of tips out there in cyberspace to help you keep your skin looking good as you age, but I’ve found a few that meet the easy, simple, and natural criteria. These tips will help you fight premature aging and reduce the appearance of wrinkles as they help your skin look fresh, smooth, and firm.

1. Drink plenty of water. It’s good for everything and keeps your skin hydrated.

2. Eat right. Yes, you hear this all the time, but your skin really does reflect your health. Eat lots of those brightly colored fruits and vegetables. Their vitamins and antioxidants combat the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which keep your skin firm and youthful.

3. Stay out of the sun. Yes, you’ve heard this a million times, too, but it’s true. Sun exposure ages skin, so stay out of the sun or use a good sun screen (SPF 15 or higher) and/or cover-ups.

4. Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoke depletes the Vitamin C in your body. As Vitamin C is key to keeping skin moist and plump, exposure* to smoke increases your chance of developing dry skin and wrinkles. (*Yes, second-hand smoke has the same effect.)

5. And speaking of dry skin, always use an anti-aging moisturizer. And this applies to all of your skin, not just your face. Try applying oil to your skin while it’s still damp from the bath or shower. When the oil soaks in, apply the anti-aging moisturizer.

6. Reevaluate your cosmetics. As you age, the tones of your hair and skin tend to fade. Colors that were flattering at one time, may not be now. Consider lighter colors which are usually more flattering to aging hair and skin.

If you’re thinking that most of this advice is common sense, you’re right. But are you following it? If not, well, don’t blame me . . . If you are: Yea! Your natural beauty will know no age. And in my next post, I’ll have some more – but maybe less well known — tips on anti-aging skin care for you.
